Konami releases Silent Hill: Townfall accolades trailer after positive reviews

Konami's accolades trailer for Silent Hill: Townfall is out. Here is what critics are reportedly saying and whether the game is worth buying.

CONFIRMED

Silent Hill: Townfall now has an accolades trailer, according to an IGN India entry titled “Silent Hill: Townfall – Official Accolades Trailer.” It arrives after the game’s September 24, 2026 launch, which Konami confirmed in its own press release. We have only seen the listing’s headline, so the review quotes and scores the trailer shows off are not verified here.

IGN India published a listing titled “Silent Hill: Townfall – Official Accolades Trailer.” That headline is the extent of what we have checked. We did not open the trailer page, so we cannot tell you which outlets or quotes it features.

The game itself is firmly real and out. Konami’s September 24, 2026 press release confirms Townfall launched that day. Annapurna Interactive co-publishes it and Screen Burn Interactive developed it. Konami describes it as the first full-length, fully first-person game in the series. That is a big deal for a franchise built on fixed and over-the-shoulder cameras.

The road here was long. Townfall was first teased at the Silent Hill Transmission in October 2022. Konami has since confirmed it is a self-contained psychological horror story set in Scotland. Konami’s first full trailer debuted during Sony’s State of Play, with Konami’s US post dated February 2026 and wishlisting opening alongside it.

Konami announced the release date during Sony’s State of Play on June 2, 2026. Its press release listed PlayStation 5, Steam and Epic Games, and opened pre-purchases with a Digital Deluxe Edition that offered 48-hour early access.

Fangoria reports a new trailer and cast reveal debuted at Gamescom. Jovan Adepo plays Simon Ordell, Kezia Burrows plays Zoe, and Terry O’Quinn plays Richard. Fangoria also gave the release date as September 24.

What we don’t know yet

The trailer’s exact release date is unconfirmed. A third-party site, 247videogame, dated its post October 20, 2026, but it is not an approved source. A GamingBolt headline says the trailer celebrates positive critical reception, though we did not open or verify it. Konami’s official site gallery shows an “Accolades Trailer” entry, but that page was cached around the February 2026 reveal, so it tells us nothing reliable about timing or contents.

Review scores are also not confirmed by us. Secondary sites including EGW, Instant Gaming News, GameDaily and Tech-Insider report Metacritic around 80 to 81 and OpenCritic around 81 to 82 from late September into early October 2026. Their review counts and recommend rates do not agree, with figures of 83%, 85% and 90% all floating around. Treat those numbers as approximate until someone checks the aggregators directly.

EGW reports that Digital Spy gave the highest score at 10/10 and VGC the lowest at 3/5. According to that same secondary reporting, praise centred on atmosphere and the first-person shift, while complaints focused on repetitive stealth and story information being withheld.

We also do not know how Townfall is selling. Konami’s launch release says the series passed 17.8 million copies worldwide by the end of June 2026, up from 17.1 million at the end of March. Those are internal figures covering shipments, downloads and subscriptions, and they predate Townfall’s launch entirely.

What it means

Publishers do not usually cut an accolades trailer for a game critics shrugged at. If the reported aggregate scores hold up, Townfall lands in solid territory: not a universal masterpiece, but a well-received new entry. After years of fans bracing for disappointment, that is a welcome shift.

So is it worth buying? Going by the secondary reports, it depends on what pulls you to Silent Hill. If you come for dread, fog and a town that feels wrong, the praised atmosphere and first-person perspective sound right up your alley. If stealth sections wear you down, or you want a story that lays its cards on the table, the reported complaints are worth weighing.

Our advice is patience over hype. Check the aggregator pages yourself, read a mix of high and low reviews, and watch the accolades trailer knowing it shows Konami’s favourite quotes by design.
