RUMOR
A new estimate from market-data firm Alinea Analytics says physical PS5 copies of Resident Evil Requiem brought in about 1.8 times the revenue of every Xbox version combined, with digital and Xbox PC included. Capcom has not confirmed any platform figures. Its own latest number is simply 8 million-plus units worldwide.

What we know
Requiem launched on February 27, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Capcom said on March 5 that it had shipped 5 million units in five days, making it the fastest-selling Resident Evil game. By April that was 7 million.
Capcom’s Q1 financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, put Requiem past 8 million cumulative units, as reported by Video Games Chronicle and Game Developer. That is Capcom’s own figure. The report does not break sales down by platform, or by physical versus digital.
So every platform comparison you are seeing comes from Alinea Analytics’ third-party modeling. GamesRadar, TweakTown, PlayStation Universe and Eurogamer all present it as an analyst estimate, with “reportedly” and “analyst finds” doing a lot of work in their headlines.
One more confirmed piece of context: on July 1, 2026, Sony announced that new PlayStation disc production will end from January 2028.
What is rumored
Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Elliott estimates in a newsletter titled “Physical game revenues on PlayStation,” published around October 20, that Requiem sold about 1.3 million physical copies on PlayStation in 2026, worth about $92.3 million. Alinea puts that at roughly 15% of the game’s all-platform revenue and 30.2% of its PlayStation revenue. It also estimates that those PS5 discs earned 1.8x more revenue than all Xbox copies, physical, digital and Xbox PC together.
Alinea is widely cited, but its figures are modeled estimates, it has no access to Capcom’s internal data, and some in the industry dispute how accurate its reporting is, per VICE.
A separate Alinea estimate from September, reported by TechPowerUp and others, puts Requiem at about 8.5 million copies and over $500 million in revenue. Its split: 48.1% PS5 (about 4.0 million), 43.4% Steam (about 3.7 million) and 8.6% Xbox including PC (about 731,000). The 8.5 million figure sits above Capcom’s 8 million-plus, which is plausible given the time gap, but no one at Capcom, Sony or Microsoft has verified it.
The physical share keeps shifting between reports. Alinea’s September data said about 30.8% of PS5 copies were physical, while an earlier consumer-tracking report covered by VICE said 27.8%. Treat these as model outputs, not ledger entries.
Tech4Gamers, a single secondary outlet, claims Requiem made over $305.3 million on PS5. The Alinea excerpts cite $92.3 million for physical, and $305.3 million looks like an implied total worked backward from the 30.2% share, so this stays unverified.
The same newsletter reportedly estimates Marvel’s Wolverine at about 800,000 physical copies out of 2.6 million, with 007 First Light, AC Black Flag Resynced and Crimson Desert each under 30% physical.
Debunked framing

Claims that PS5 discs are “outselling” every Xbox version combined, pushed by Tech4Gamers and some social posts, misread Alinea’s wording. The 1.8x figure compares revenue, not units. Alinea’s separate unit estimates (1.3 million PS5 discs versus about 731,000 total Xbox copies) land near 1.8x too, but that is two estimates side by side, not an official comparison. Italian outlet Gametimers also stresses these are Alinea calculations, not a Capcom report.
What we don’t know yet
We don’t know Capcom’s real platform or format split, and it may never be published. The reported Alinea split doesn’t list a Switch 2 share. We also don’t know exactly how Alinea builds its models, which matters when its own physical figures drift between releases.
What it means

If Alinea’s model is anywhere near right, Requiem’s audience lives on PS5 and Steam, with Xbox a thin slice even after adding Xbox PC. That fits a pattern horror fans on Xbox have probably felt for a while.
The disc angle is the more interesting one. Even in these estimates, physical is a minority of PS5 sales, yet still a meaningful chunk of revenue for a single game. With Sony ending new disc production from 2028, numbers like these are a snapshot of a format on its way out. Just remember it’s a modeled snapshot, not Capcom’s books.
