CONFIRMED
Mouthwashing is finally leaving PC-only territory. Publisher Critical Reflex and developer Wrong Organ have announced that the award-winning indie horror game launches on PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Switch and PC via Microsoft Store on October 29, 2026, Gematsu reports. Physical editions for PS5 and Switch are coming through Fangamer, but the sources we have seen do not say when those copies will ship.

What we know
According to Gematsu, Critical Reflex and Wrong Organ announced the date on October 20, 2026. Gematsu’s tags indicate the release date trailer was shown during the “CRITICAL REFLEX TIME” / ID@Xbox Showcase.
The platform list is broader than before. Gematsu names PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Switch and PC via Microsoft Store. PS4 is new in this announcement. Earlier announcements named only PS5, Xbox Series and Switch, so last-gen PlayStation owners get a pleasant surprise here.
On the physical side, Gematsu reports that a physical edition will be available for PS5 and Switch via Fangamer. Xbox players will be sticking to digital. TheGamer’s 2025 report on the original Critical Reflex announcement says there is no physical Xbox edition.
This has been a long road. Mouthwashing first launched on Steam on September 26, 2024, per Gematsu. The console versions were announced on February 20, 2025, alongside the news that the game had passed 500,000 units sold, Gematsu reported at the time. That same announcement covered a Switch digital and physical release and a PS5 physical edition through Fangamer.
The game’s reputation came with it. GoNintendo reported an 87 Metacritic score and wins for Best Narrative and Players’ Choice at the Horror Game Awards when the console versions were first revealed.
What we don’t know yet
The big one is the physical release date. The story framing around this announcement suggests physical Switch copies arrive alongside the digital launch, but that is not supported by the sources we trust. Gematsu says only that the Fangamer edition “will be available,” with no date. Final Weapon says the physical launch date is unknown. If you are planning to grab a boxed copy on October 29, hold off on assuming it will be there.
Game Pass is another open question. DualShockers has reported that Mouthwashing joins Xbox Game Pass on October 29, citing Xbox Wire, but we have not been able to check that against the official post ourselves. Treat it as unverified until Microsoft or Critical Reflex confirms it somewhere we can see.
Switch 2 is murky too. Some coverage refers to Switch 2, while most outlets say only “Switch.” From what we have seen, we cannot tell whether a native Switch 2 version is planned or whether the Switch version simply runs on the newer hardware.
Pricing has not appeared in any of the sources we reviewed.
What it means

For console horror fans who kept hearing about Mouthwashing and had no way to play it, this is the moment. The game was originally slated for a 2025 console window that quietly came and went without a release, so a firm date is genuinely welcome after that silence.
The PS4 addition is a nice touch. Smaller narrative horror games tend to run well on older hardware, and opening the door to players who never upgraded widens the audience for one of the most talked-about indie horror titles of the past couple of years.
For collectors, the advice is simple: the digital date is solid, the physical date is not. Keep an eye on Fangamer and Critical Reflex for news on when boxed copies actually ship. We will update once there is something official.
