Peacock confirmed the titles of all eight episodes, and Bloody Disgusting reports the full season clocks in at 6 hours 37 minutes. According to an NBCUniversal release reported by Futon Critic, the series premiered October 15, 2026, after slipping from its original Halloween 2025 target.

Variety’s TV review is the clearest verdict so far. The trade calls the show “thoughtful though overlong” and argues it works better as a psychological thriller than a straight horror series. It also says the pacing is sluggish. On the plus side, Variety singles out excellent performances from Cardellini and William Catlett.

On Easter eggs, Bloody Disgusting’s list points out that more than half of the episode titles borrow sequel subtitles: Part 2, Part III, A New Beginning, The New Blood and The Final Chapter. The outlet also flags nods to Friday the 13th Part 2, Harry Manfredini’s iconic “ki ki ki ma ma ma” cue, and the ending of the 1980 original.

The images are out there too, so tread carefully. Dread Central held an officially approved gallery until viewers had a weekend to watch. That set includes shots from episode five’s recreation of the original film’s opening murders, plus kills by Pamela and Jason. Earlier Dread Central stills, from around October 15, showed Callum Vinson as young Jason in a camper uniform alongside Gwendolyn Sundstrom as Grace, and the aftermath of Pamela’s attack on Valerie (Tonya Glanz) in episode three.

Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane also spoke with Dread Central about the season’s Easter eggs, its kills and the Project Argonaut storyline.

What we don’t know yet

Bloody Disgusting raises a possible reference to the 2024 game The Curse of Camp Moonshine but labels it “possibly,” so treat that one as the outlet’s speculation, not a confirmed nod.

Season 2 is the big open question. Several secondary outlets, including Just Jared, Yahoo, ComingSoon and Review Geek, report that Peacock has not announced a renewal as of October 17-19. Just Jared quotes Kane telling Dread Central that he built Season 1 to feel complete but knows where a second season would go. We have not been able to verify that quote against Dread Central’s interview text, so take it as reported secondhand.

We also have not checked the aggregate critic score. Rotten Tomatoes showed a split field around October 16-18, with Peter Travers at 3/4, Slant at 1.5/4 and the Guardian at 2/5.

What it means

Critics are genuinely divided, and that tracks with Variety’s take. Elsewhere, /Film calls it thrilling, IndieWire calls it underbaked, CBR finds it frustrating, Gizmodo calls it campy and gory, and Tom’s Guide praises the kills. That is opinion, not consensus, but the pattern is telling: this is a patient show.

If you came to Crystal Lake for a body count every ten minutes, almost seven hours of character study may test you. If you love the Voorhees mythology and want to sit with Pamela’s grief and young Jason’s world before the machete era, the performances, the deep-cut episode titles and that Manfredini cue sound like a treat. Our advice: commit through Episode 7, and stay off the image galleries until you get there.
