CONFIRMED
A24 has dropped a new teaser poster for Jeremy Saulnier’s Slayground, and it carries a theatrical release date of January 29, 2027. Dread Central and Bloody Disgusting both report that the first full trailer arrives the day after the poster’s October 19 debut, which puts it on October 20.
What we know

The date is January 29, 2027, in theaters. Dread Central and Bloody Disgusting both report it from the new A24 poster. If you saw “2026” floating around, that came from a ComingSoon article, and it is a typo. The earlier “Fall” tag on the September teaser also turned out not to mean a fall 2026 release.
The trailer timing is simple. Dread Central says the full trailer drops “tomorrow” relative to its October 19 report, and Bloody Disgusting likewise says it is due the next day. That makes October 20 the day to watch.
The poster itself is a lovely bit of gallows humor. Dread Central reports it is styled like one of those workplace “days since the last accident” signs, except this one reads “days since the last homicide.” The counter shows a blue sad-face zero. For a film Bloody Disgusting describes as horror centered on a haunted house attraction, that is a sly way of saying someone on staff just had a very bad shift.
The film used to be called October. Deadline first reported the project as October in June 2025, describing a Halloween-set fugitive thriller written and directed by Saulnier, with A24 producing and financing and Cory Michael Smith set to star (per Creepy Catalog’s summary). Dread Central lists the full cast as Imogen Poots, James Badge Dale, Cory Michael Smith, Chase Sui Wonders, Sophie Wilde, Matty Matheson, Young Mazino and Stephen Root.
Back on September 21, 2026, A24 posted a cryptic promo on YouTube styled as haunted-attraction surveillance footage. It pointed to runlikehell.com and its roughly four-week countdown, and Creepy Catalog and Haunted Attraction Network say it played in theaters ahead of Resident Evil.
What is rumored
World of Reel’s Jordan Ruimy reported in September, citing his own unnamed sources, that Slayground is a “fugitive thriller” with an internal cut of roughly 2.5 hours. In his account, Smith plays a haunted-attraction employee who escapes police custody as a mass-murder suspect, and the title changed because A24 would not hold an October release. This is a grade D, single-outlet report from a site with a mixed track record. Ruimy did predict the January 29, 2027 date on September 23, and that matched the announcement. A24 has not confirmed any of the plot details.
World of Reel also said it had “heard” that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross scored the film. A24 has not confirmed that.
Finally, World of Reel openly speculated about a Sundance premiere, possibly in Boulder, Colorado. No festival announcement has surfaced.
What we don’t know yet
A24 has not issued an official synopsis, a point Haunted Attraction Network and Creepy Catalog both made in September. We don’t know who Smith plays, what the runtime is, or who composed the score. Even the genre label is up for grabs: Bloody Disgusting, Dread Central and Rue Morgue call it horror, while JoBlo and ComingSoon call it an action thriller. A24 has not weighed in.
What it means
Saulnier made Green Room, so a horror-thriller hybrid built around a deadly haunted attraction is exactly the kind of mix you would hope for from him. The January slot loses the Halloween tie-in the old title promised, but the “days since” poster suggests A24 is leaning into dark comedy around the body count.
The trailer on October 20 should finally show whether this plays as slasher, siege film or manhunt. Until A24 says more, treat the plot and score chatter as rumor.
