What we know

What We Know (2021)
What We Know (2021) still

The headline news comes straight from Deadline. Ings and Beatriz are the latest additions to a cast led by Bacon, and Deadline says the film is now in production under Amazon MGM Studios. Deadline also notes that Ings currently stars opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones in Prime Video’s Kill Jackie.

One small housekeeping note on Ings: Deadline credits him with The Gentlemen, while Dread Central’s write-up lists him with The Marvels. We are going with Deadline, since it is the originating report.

As for what Summoner actually is, Dread Central, citing Deadline, lays out the setup. Bacon plays Jefferson Haddock, an exorcist who is called to an isolated witness protection property to deal with a demon. The encounter unleashes a force that threatens him and everything around him.

Giorgia Whigham was previously announced as part of the cast.

Behind the camera, Dread Central reports that Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Russell Ackerman produce through Nocturna, with Dan Kagan as an executive producer. FilmoFilia’s rewrite of Deadline’s exclusive fills out the executive producer list with Melissa Russell, Carl Hampe and John Schoenfelder alongside Kagan. We have not seen Deadline’s full text on that point, so treat the longer list as secondhand, though it comes from a straight rewrite rather than a rumor.

Slater is a known quantity for genre fans. His credits include Moon Knight, The Umbrella Academy, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Mortal Kombat II and Fox’s The Exorcist series. That last one is the most relevant here, since Summoner is a demon story through and through.

Bacon, meanwhile, has been living in horror lately: MaXXXine in 2024, The Bondsman on Prime Video, and Family Movie, which premiered at SXSW on March 13, 2026.

What we don’t know yet

The big gap is who Ings and Beatriz are playing. Deadline and Dread Central both say the roles have not been disclosed, and nobody has filled that in since.

There is no release date. Dread Central says the film is headed for theaters, but on an undisclosed date, and nothing in the Oct 16 coverage changes that.

Filming location is also unconfirmed. The August report on Whigham’s casting said production would start in the fall in Ireland, which lines up with the timing Deadline is now reporting. But none of the Oct 16 coverage we reviewed actually names a shooting location, so file Ireland under “previously reported, not currently confirmed.”

We also have not seen any rumors, leaks or contradicting reports about Summoner. For a demon movie with the Muschiettis attached, that is a refreshingly quiet lead-up.

What it means

Summoner is shaping up as a contained, cast-driven horror picture rather than a franchise play. An exorcist, a safehouse, a witness protection agent and a demon is a tight, claustrophobic premise, and the additions of Ings and Beatriz suggest Slater is stacking the small ensemble with performers who can carry long stretches of dialogue and dread.

Beatriz is best known for comedy, so a horror turn is a genuine change of pace. Ings has done both comedy and heavier dramatic work, and the Kill Jackie connection means Amazon is keeping him close. With Bacon anchoring it and the Muschiettis producing, this now looks like a real theatrical bet from Amazon MGM rather than a streaming filler.

Production is underway, so the next things to watch for are a first-look image, a shooting location confirmation and, eventually, a date. Until then, everything above is what Deadline and the outlets citing it have put on the record.
